- Car Dealer Horror Story -
Car Sales Person Lies About Price Of Car!

::: Car dealer horror story by Bill, New Jersey, United States...
"We just purchased a new vehicle. The total sticker price was $17,995.00. When we got home I noticed the price of the car was 1000.00 more. Shame on us! I was so happy I got a new car loan. Just getting back on my feet after chap 7 was discharged. Here is the best part....we are in the finance managers office. He shows us that the bank will give me a loan at 3 points lower if we purchase gap and an extended warranty. So we take it. I call my insurance agent and he tells me that I have gap insurance for 2 years at no cost. After seeing I can't do a think about being overcharged for the 1000.00, I call a consumer fraud lawyer. He tells me the best thing is too cancel both policies within 30 days and get full credit. I did and boy did the dealer cry like a baby. By the way, I called the bank and they don't have a policy on mandatory gap and extended car warranties for lower rates. They might have gotten my extra 1000.00 but I learned for the next time."

My response...
Well right on that you at least looked at the paperwork later and bailed on their expensive GAP car insurance and the overpriced car warranty that the dealer was offering you. By the way, getting an extended car warranty and GAP car insurance are really good things to do and are an excellent way to avoid your own car dealer horror story. Whether you are buying a car or leasing a car (and even if you already did in the last 90 days), click here for more info about extended car warranties and also why you might need GAP car insurance because they are both cheap insurance to have. Just one car repair can pay for your extended auto warranty and a GAP insurance policy could save you thousands of dollars if you were to get in a wreck with a recently purchased or leased car.

::: Car dealer horror story from Alex in New Jersey, USA...
"1) You (customer) go to a dealer for the first time. 2) The dealer gives you a very good deal. He writes it on his business card. 3) You think that you can find a better deal by shopping around using this deal as a starting point. 4) After several days or weeks of shopping, you realize that no dealer in your area can even match the deal.

5) You go back to the first dealer and ask to honor the deal. 6) The dealer agrees. 7) You shake hands, sign some no-legal papers, test drive, remove license plates from your trade, call your wife with good news, and feel tired but happy. 8) Then a floor manager comes to you and says something like this: We are sorry, we made a mistake, we can not honor the deal, our new deal is that - blah, blah, blah. 9) You feel very angry and go to the exit. 10) The manager stops you and offers you a little better deal. 11) You still angry and go the exit. 12) The manager stops you and offers you a little better deal. It is still worse then the original. 13) You think: I just spent days or weeks shopping, I just spent 3 - 4 hours here, I am very tired, I want to go home in a new car which I already love, my wife already prepared a celebration diner, I do not have any desire to start all over again. 14) You agree with the latest deal. It is actually a real car dealer horror story. The bad thing is that I do not know how to avoid this happening in the future."

My response to the previous car dealer horror story...
That last car dealer horror story is so typical. See how the poor guy finally just gave up and agreed with "the latest deal"? What really is amazing is that this dealership can treat people so poorly and still stay in business! Anybody else that treated their customers like that would have gone out of business a long time ago.

::: Car dealer horror story by Alice, New Jersey, United States...
"On 6/8/05 we went to EAST BRUNSWICK XXXXXXXX NJ to purchase a new car. We shook hands on a deal with XXXXXX, Sales Mgr., for a 2005 Grand Prix 4 DR Sedan Grand Prix GT for $20,500 with our Oldsmobile Intrique trade-in.

Our salesman proceeded to call our insurance company to do a policy change to add the Pontiac to our policy which was confirmed. Once our salesman had approval from Gm Card for our $XXXXXXXX in earnings, the Sales Manager, XXXXXXX, said he would no longer honor our deal as we had too many discounts. Later he said he had never shook hands with us on this deal for $20,500.00. Obviously it is very upsetting to think you own a car and then to have the dealer renege on the deal. I have used incentives and GM Card Earnings before when purchasing GM cars and was never told we had too many discounts. I want to make sure that I tell everyone I know how I was treated by EAST BRUNSWICK XXXXXXXXX"

My response to the previous car dealer horror story...
Sorry I had to substitute the names for a bunch of X's Alice. I believe you though, especially since you actually left your full name and phone number with your car dealer horror story submission.
