:: Car dealer horror story by Rich, United States... "Here is a clever lease scam going around now. Thought you might want to warn your readers....
Customer wants a 3 year lease on a particular vehicle for X amount of dollars a month. Dealership tells customer that the only way to get to that payment is by leasing the vehicle for 5 years.
Customer does not want to lease for that long of a term, so dealer tells the customer not to be concerned because this 5 year lease is a "Flex Lease". Dealer states verbally that the customer can get out of the lease with no problem after about 3 years or so.
This is a total and complete scam.
Leases by their very nature are intended to run their full term. Early termination of a lease on a vehicle can be very expensive, and unless a manufacturer has a special program running to help lease customers terminate early you will pay dearly for the early termination.
Customer has no recourse since there is nothing in writing to support any early termination policy regarding this alleged Flex Lease.
Watch out for this one!"
MY RESPONSE... Thank you very much for your input Rich. Car lease contracts can be complex beasts and I deal with them a bit on this site
in my section about
car leases.
:: Car dealer horror story by Cella Texas, United States... "I was in a car wreck in 2003 where an eighteen wheeler totaled my 10 day old 2003 Tacoma. When it came time to purchase another truck the dealership said they could get us a truck just like the one I had the wreck in.
Not so, they came up with a newer model for more money. That wasn't the deal they had promised. They saw that we were hesitant so they started showing us the new 2004 Tundra's. We were told if we leased the Tundra our payments would be cheaper than if we bought the Tacoma outright. I told the salesman we lived in a very rural area and had to drive alot to get from place to place. He told us, "NO PROBLEM", the lease called for unlimited miles and we didn't have to worry. WRONG! With my foot in a cast, tired of being on crutches and haggeling with the dealer we did the stupid thing and got hooked up in a four year lease. Any thing we can do to get out of it? We will have had the car for almost 2 years now and have put 60,000 plus miles on the truck."

:: Car dealer horror story from Joseph Quebec, Canada...
We came to return our XXX lease to XXX XXXX XXXXX and they assesed us for 6900 in excces wear and tear so i brought it to another dealer that assesed it at 2200 wear and tear and after fighting it out i was basically forced to buy the car if i didnt want to risk having to pay the 6900. in the end i purchased it for 10000 plus tax when its market value should not be more then 6000. i know they wanted the 6900 so they shouldent lose the difference between the residual and its true market value. My question is was there a way to get around the 6900 payment? Is there a way i can fight them in court now?
MY RESPONSE TO THE PREVIOUS CAR DEALER HORROR STORY... Sorry I
can't help you here but that sounds like a question for an attorney who knows
about car leases.
